The Copper Room
The Copper Room is the smallest room in the house and, by a margin that surprises people, the most requested by return guests. It is on the first floor, tucked behind the staircase, with one window that faces the side garden and a copper reading lamp that gives the room its name and its warmth.
Everything in this room is close. The bed is full-sized, the nightstand is within arm's reach of everything, and the bathroom door is three steps from the pillow. This is not a room for spreading out. It is a room for arriving, closing the door, and feeling immediately that you are somewhere specific.
The locals know about the Copper Room. They book it for visiting parents, for anniversaries, for the friend who needs a night away from their own house. It is the room that NVC residents recommend when someone asks where to stay. It books out months in advance. We have never advertised it.
The cleaning crew spends more time in this room than any other. Not because it needs it, but because they take pride in it. Their attention is visible.
